Interval logger
Rest by heart rate, not the clock.
With a chest strap or band streaming your heart rate, Vaughn's interval logger can run your rests by it. You choose how far it should come down after each interval; the next interval starts when it has.
The demo plays a simulated heart rate. In the app, every number comes from your own strap or band.
How heart rate guided recovery works
An interval session is work and rest, repeated. A fixed rest gives every set the same seconds. A heart rate rest gives every set the same recovery, measured.
Set the session
Choose the number of sets and the interval length, then choose how you rest: by a fixed ratio, or by heart rate when a strap or band is streaming. Without one, you rest by ratio. With heart rate you set the drop, 40 bpm to start, adjustable in steps of 5.
Work, then recover
Each interval counts down on the ring. When it ends, Vaughn notes your peak heart rate and shows how far it has come down. Ten beats from the target it tells you; at the target it marks the set recovered and the next interval begins.
See every rest
When the session ends you see how long each set took to recover, your peak and your time in zone 5, with the whole session's heart rate line. Each rest is saved with the workout.
Rest by ratio
The rest is a set multiple of the interval: 30 seconds of work at 1:3 is 90 seconds of rest, every set, however the set went.
Rest by heart rate
The rest lasts as long as your heart rate takes to come down by the amount you chose. Early sets are often quick; later ones take longer. The screen shows you which. It needs a chest strap or band streaming heart rate to the app.
